History of the Ligonier Tavern

FOODIES ...what are they

Many people call themselves foodies, and it seems to me that most people who like to eat and appreciate food, identify themselves as a foodie.

A few years ago I might have thought of myself as one, but now I personally don't identify with the term after observing self  proclaimed  foodies in action (which I will describe later).   I am a fanatic about food, the traditions around it, how it is made, eaten, and its history and development.  I am constantly in search of the next thing my mouth will love.  I see this much like the same as a Chef or avid home cook, and that it is less about being a foodie, and more about trying to be informed and feed my interest.

My definition changed because I started noticing people talking about food in a way that was very trendy and not exactly reflective of what I was experiencing (much like that of wine tasting).  Patron's of restaurants began to talk about food pairings like they were in the know, but many times talked out their ass.  IT was more than the comment about a food's MSG content when it did not have one, but it was about preparation or style of certain foods, when it was obviously not the case (sometimes I knew how it was prepared from a Chef).  Food to me is also very subjective, so I think it is funny when people are highbrow or overly judgmental (realizing of course the I am being judgmental when I write a review on yelp).  I guess I associate these two attributes with the term foodie, so when I hear foodie, I think of a person who likes to eat and socialize about food as a means to differentiate themselves from the non foodie, but not necessarily for the sake of knowing about or understanding the food itself.

For the sake of interest and perspective, I thought I would ask yelpers, what is it to be a foodie in you eyes?
